NO.11 KIRKWOOD SPLITS WITH TRITON

RIVER GROVE, Ill. - The 10th-ranked team in the country played the 11th-ranked team in the country on Thursday.

Perhaps not surprisingly, they split their doubleheader.

The 11th-ranked Kirkwood Eagles collected an 8-1 victory over 10th-ranked Triton in the second game of their twin-bill in River Grove, Ill., after Triton took the opener, 3-2.

Payton Akers (12-8) pitched a strong game in the 8-1 victory. She tossed a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks in a complete game.

Grace Lubben, Alecea Mendoza, Reagan Schutte and Chelsea Buck belted home runs to support Akers. Schutte drove in four runs. Lubben, Mendoza and Brooke Kilburg had two hits.

Kilburg had two RBIs in the 3-2 setback. Kori Wedeking (14-5) took the loss.

The split left Kirkwood at 33-15 overall. Triton is 36-6.
