WEDEKING TWIRLS EAGLES TO REGIONAL TITLE

Kori Wedeking tossed a three-hit shutout Sunday as the 11th-ranked Kirkwood Eagles trimmed 17th-ranked Iowa Lakes, 1-0, in eight innings to win the regional title at Kirkwood.
 
The Eagles (42-15) will play in a district tournament this week, with the winner advancing to the junior college World Series.
 
Alecea Mendoza drove in the game-winning run with an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth to end a scoreless duel. Mendoza went 2-for-4.
 
Wedeking (18-5, 1.80) struck out 10 batters. Wedeking's performance came a day after she blanked Iowa Lakes, 5-0, on a two-hitter on Saturday.
 
Peggy Klingler went 3-for-3 for Kirkwood on Sunday.
