NO.11 EAGLES ROLL IN REGIONAL OPENER
The Kirkwood Eagles rolled to a 9-1 victory over Ellsworth in the opening round of the regional softball tournament Friday at Kirkwood.
The 11th-ranked Eagles (40-15) will face 17th-ranked Iowa Lakes (36-10) in the winner's bracket final at 2 p.m. Saturday. Iowa Lakes defeated Northeast Community College in the opening round for its 16th straight victory.
Neveah Hildebrandt and Annie Gahan socked home runs to lead Kirkwood Friday. Hildebrandt went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Gahan was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
Austyn Crees drove in three runs for Kirkwood. Emilee Linder scored three times. Alecea Mendoza had two hits.
Payton Akers (16-8) pitched all six innings with 11 strikeouts.
The tournament ends Sunday.
