KCC SOFTBALL ENDS SERIES WITH TOUGH LOSS
OXFORD, Ala. - The Kirkwood softball team ran out of magic Sunday.
The Eagles lost to Murray State, 5-4, in the losers bracket final and finished in third place at the NJCAA Division II World Series in Alabama.
Phoenix College topped Murray State, 13-5, for the title.
Kirkwood, the No. 7 seed, compiled a 5-2 record in the World Series, including a 4-1 victory over top-ranked DMACC in an elimination game.
The Eagles trailed Murray State, 5-1, after two innings Sunday, but they pulled within 5-4 with a single tally in the third inning and two more runs in the fourth.
The rally ended there, however, and Kirkwood finished the season with a 49-18 record after claiming regional and district crowns.
Grace Lubben and Reagan Schutte had two hits Sunday.
