NO.11 KCC SOFTBALL SWEEPS SOUTHEASTERN

The 11th-ranked Kirkwood softball team enjoyed a big weekend against Southeastern by sweeping all four ICCAC conference games.

The weekend began Saturday in West Burlington, where the Eagles swept their first doubleheader, 11-1 and 6-2. The two teams moved to Kirkwood on Sunday and the Eagles prevailed again, 10-5 and 9-0.

Kirkwood raised its records to 37-15 overall and 18-6 in the conference. The Eagles will host a regional tournament May 6-7-8. Southeastern fell 26-21 overall and 13-11.

Kirkwood belted six home runs in the 11-1 victory in the first game Saturday. Grace Lubben socked two homers with Austyn Crees, Neveah Hildebrandt, Anne Gahan and Reagan Schutte also connecting. Lubben, Crees and Hildebrandt all drove in three runs. Kori Wedeking got the win.

Payton Akers struck out 16 batters in the 6-2 victory in Game 2 Saturday. Hildebrandt collected two RBIs. Gahan and Emilee Linder had two hits.

Peggy Klingler, Gahan and Linder hit home runs in the 10-5 verdict in the first game Sunday. Alecea Mendoza went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Klingler also drove in three runs. Brooke Kilburg had two RBIs. Wedeking (16-5, 2.01) got the victory. Kara Maiers pitched three innings for a save.

Mendoza and Schutte belted two homers and drove in three runs as the Eagles rolled, 9-0, in the second game Sunday. Hildebrandt also hit a round-tripper. Akers (14-8, 2.48) got the victory.
