Beuter shines as Eagles top DuPage

Reece Beuter sparkled on the mound for the Kirkwood Eagles Friday afternoon.

Beuter struck out seven batters in three innings as the Eagles topped the College of DuPage, 5-2, in a single game at Kirkwood.

Beuter, a freshman right-hander from Dike-New Hartford, flashed a 91 mph fastball and a sharp breaking pitch. He struck out the side in the first two innings and allowed only one hit before handing the ball to the bullpen.

Frankie Cresta (1-0) got the victory in relief. He did not allow any hits or runs during his 1 2/3 innings. Sam Goodman finished the game with a 2 2/3 scoring frames for the save.

Joel Vaske belted a home run and drove in two runs for Kirkwood. Trevor Burkhart also had two RBIs for the Eagles. Alex Pendergast collected two hits.

Kirkwood raised its record to 3-6. The same two teams are scheduled for a doubleheader Saturday at noon.
