Eagles belt 8 homers to sweep Ellsworth
IOWA FALLS - Eight players socked home runs Thursday as the Kirkwood Eagles swept an ICCAC doubleheader from Ellsworth, 5-4 and 21-11, in Iowa Falls.
The Eagles raised their records to 24-17 overall and 20-10 in the conference, tied for the ICCAC lead with Northeast Community College among Division II teams in the league.
Josh Fitzgerald and Casey Sole connected for Kirkwood in the 5-4 victory in the opener. Both players had two RBIs. Chase Moseley and Kyle Moeder had two hits.
Noah Van Veldhuizen (2-1) picked up the victory in relief. Frankie Cresta collected his fifth save, tying him for the third-most saves in NJCAA Division II.
Trevor Burkhart, Joel Vaske, Moseley, Cade Moss, Andrew Nord and Merritt McCardle blasted home runs in the 21-11 victory in the nightcap.
Nord was 3-for-4 with five RBIs. Vaske was 4-for-6 with three RBIs. Alex Pendergast also drove in three runs. Burkhart, Moseley and Andrue Henry had two RBIs. Fitzgerald had three hits and scored four runs.
Tucker Christensen (2-1) picked up the victory in relief.
