Yates sparkles on the mound for Eagles

Rian Yates was nearly perfect for the Kirkwood Eagles Friday afternoon.

Yates tossed a one-hitter for six innings as the Eagles blanked DMACC, 7-0, in the first game of their ICCAC doubleheader at Kirkwood.

DMACC took the second game, 11-8.

Yates (3-1) struck out six batters and walked only one during his impressive outing. Cameron Hunter retired all three batters in the seventh inning to end the game.

Josh Fitzerald went 2-for-4 with two runs, a homer and two RBIs in the first game for Kirkwood. Kyle Moeder scored two runs. Trevor Burkhart had three stolen bases.

DMACC scored seven runs in the fourth inning to deny the Eagles in Game 2. Fitzgerald and Chase Moseley hit home runs for Kirkwood. Joel Vaske hit two doubles, giving him three two-baggers in the twinbill.

Fitzgerald went 2-for-6 with three RBIs. Burkhart was 2-for-4 and scored twice. Vaske and Moseley drove in two runs.

The split left Kirkwood at 11-14 overall and 7-7 in the conference. DMACC is 11-15 overall and 7-7 in the league as well.

The two teams meet again Saturday in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
