Baseball team rallies to sweep Indian Hills

The Kirkwood baseball team pulled off another incredible rally Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat Indian Hills, 13-12, in the second game of their ICCAC doubleheader at the Kirkwood field.

Kirkwood won the first game, 10-3, to sweep the twin-bill.

The Eagles trailed 9-0 in the fourth inning of Game 2 and trailed 12-6 in the eighth, but they pulled within 12-9 in the bottom of the eighth and grabbed the game with a walk-off win in the ninth.

The sweep lifted Kirkwood to 22-17 overall and 18-10 in the conference. Indian Hills fell to 26-7 overall and 21-7 in the league.

Alex Pendergast went 3-for-4 with a homer, two runs and four RBIs in the 10-3 victory in Game 1. Cade Moss was 3-for-4 and drove in four runs. Kyle Moeder went 3-for-4. Josh Fitzgerald, Trevor Burkhart and Chase Moseley scored twice.

Luke Llewellyn (2-2) pitched five strong innings for the victory in the opener, allowing one run on three hits.

Fitzgerald, Moseley and Joel Vaske swatted home runs in the wild 13-12 victory in the nightcap. Moseley was 2-for-3 with five RBIs. Vaske was 2-for-5 with five RBIs. 

Pendergast continued his hot hitting by going 3-for-5 with a double, triple, four runs and two RBIs. Fitzgerald was 2-for-4 with four runs and two RBIs.

Frankie Cresta (4-0) got the victory in relief. He struck out the only two batters he faced in the top of the ninth and was the pitcher of record when Kirkwood rallied in the bottom half of the inning.

Kirkwood won the weekend series, 3-1.
