Beuter tames Indian Hills for Eagles

Reece Beuter pitched a masterful game for the Kirkwood Eagles Saturday afternoon.

Beuter tossed a two-hitter as the Eagles clipped Indian Hills, 9-1, in the first game of an ICCAC doubleheader at Kirkwood.

Indian Hills took the nightcap, 9-4.

Indian Hills featured a potent lineup with players from all over the world, but Beuter (2-2) was in command in the opener with his crackling fastball and breaking pitches for six strong innings. He struck out three batters and walked two.

It was a scoreless ballgame until the bottom of the fourth inning when Chase Moseley hit a triple and scored on a single by Tyler Tscherter.

Alex Pendergast belted a three-run homer in the fifth inning when the Eagles batted around and scored five runs for a 6-0 lead. Kirkwood scored three times in the sixth for a 9-0 advantage.

Pendergast went 2-for-4 with two runs and his three RBIs in Game 1. He also made three sensational plays on defense at second base.

Moseley was 2-for-2 and scored three times. Joel Vaske was 2-for-3 and scored twice. Josh Fitzgerald went 2-for-3. Tscherter drove in two runs.

Fitzgerald was 3-for-4 and scored twice in the 9-4 setback in Game 2. Vaske was 2-for-3 with a home run. Trevor Burkhart was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

The split left Kirkwood at 20-17 overall and 16-10 in the ICCAC. Indian Hills is 26-5 overall and 21-5 in the league.
