KCC SOFTBALL EARNS TRIP TO WORLD SERIES

The Kirkwood softball team swept Dawson College in the junior college district tournament Friday at Kirkwood and has claimed another spot in the NJCAA Division II World Series.

The 12th-ranked Eagles took care of Dawson, 7-0 and 16-4, and will take a 43-16 record to the World Series that will be held May 23-27 in Spartanburg, S.C.

Kirkwood placed third in the national tournament in 2022.

Sailor Hall (17-4) tossed a two-hit shutout in the 7-0 victory. She also went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Emilee Linder went 2-for-3 in Game 1 and scored twice. Brooke Kilburg had two RBIs. Grace Lubben scored twice.

Kirkwood was the visiting team in Game 2 and removed all doubt by scoring nine runs in the top of the ninth for the 16-4 bulge. Jenna Sprague (10-4) pitched a complete game, allowing only one earned run
with 12 strikeouts.

Peggy Klingler went 2-for-5 with a homer, two runs and three RBIs. Linder was 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Annie Gahan was 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs. Sydney Roe scored three times.

Hall went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Lubben drove in two runs. Kilburg scored twice.

Kirkwood softball advances to the 2023 NJCAA National Tournament May 23-27 in Spartanburg, SC.
