Eagles fly in opener at World Series

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Kirkwood Eagles began the softball World Series in style Tuesday, but now comes the really hard part.
 
Kirkwood scored 10 runs in the first inning and crushed Danville, 13-1, in five innings in the opening round of the 16-team tournament.
 
The Eagles (44-16) face a daunting task with a game against top-ranked Murray State (51-0) Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the winner's bracket quarterfinals. Kirkwood will be trying to hand Murray State its first loss of the entire season.
 
Chelsea Buck hit a home run and drove in four runs against Danville. Emilee Linder went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Sydney Roe was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Grace Lubben had two hits. Neveah Hildebrandt, Brooke Kilburg, and Buck scored twice.
 
Sailor Hall (18-4) pitched a two-hitter and allowed one run.
