KCC SOFTBALL STAYS ALIVE AT WORLD SERIES

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Sydney Roe and Annie Gahan belted solo home runs Wednesday evening as the Kirkwood Eagles blanked South Suburban College, 2-0, in an elimination game at the NJCAA Division II national tournament.
 
Kirkwood (45-17) will face Parkland College (51-11) in another elimination game Thursday at 3 p.m. If the Eagles win that game, they'll play again Thursday at 7 p.m.
 
Kirkwood lost to top-ranked Murray State, 3-1, in the winners bracket quarterfinals Wednesday afternoon. The game was tied, 1-1, after five innings, but Murray State (58-0) scored twice in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Sailor Hall (19-4) rescued Kirkwood against South Suburban. Jenna Sprague started the game for the Eagles and retired all three batters she faced in the first inning, but Hall pitched the next six innings to finish the five-hit shutout.
 
Gahan and Emilee Linder had two hits against South Suburban (37-14).
 
Kirkwood took a 1-0 lead against Murray State in its first game Wednesday on a triple by Linder and an RBI single by Neveah Hildebrandt, but Murray State tied the score in the bottom of the frame.
 
It stayed 1-1 until Murray State struck for two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Kara Maiers (16-9) pitched a strong game into the sixth inning, before being relieved by Sprague.
