No.7 Eagles spike No.3 DMACC

The Kirkwood women's volleyball team ended the regular season in style Tuesday night.  It was a night to recognize five sophomores and to celebrate an important win as the Eagles secured the No. 2 seed in the overall Region XI post-season tournament. 

The seventh-ranked Eagles slipped No. 3 DMACC, 25-20, 25-12, 23-25, 28-26, in a clash of national powers at Johnson Hall.

Kirkwood (15-4) earned the highest seed in its region and will host Northeast or Iowa Lakes in the semifinals Sunday at 1 p.m.

Emily Strauss, Anna Gorsich, and Katie Kopriva were the big swingers for Kirkwood on Tuesday. Strauss collected 19 kills, Gorsich had 17 and Kopriva added 15 to the attack.

Rachael Nelson rolled up 60 assists in the four sets for an average of 15 assists per set.

Defensively once again libero Allison Pisarcik leads the Eagles with 25 digs, Macy Akers 16, Nelson 12, and Kamara Dickerson 10. 

Jada Golden-Smith had six blocks, while Strauss and Nelson snuffed three apiece.
