KCC volleyball falls to Gulf Coast

The Kirkwood Eagles lost to Gulf Coast, 25-18, 25-20, 26-28, 25-22, in a consolation match at the NJCAA Division II volleyball tournament at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse Wednesday.

Kirkwood played the match 14 hours after losing to Johnson County, 3-2, in an agonizing setback in the quarterfinals Tuesday night.

The Eagles (19-6) will face Catawba Valley for seventh place Thursday at noon.

Anna Gorsich led Kirkwood with 18 kills against Gulf Coast. Emily Strauss had 14 kills and Katie Kopriva 13.

Rachael Nelson collected 45 assists. Gorsich made 20 digs. Jada Golden-Smith and Maggie Peters added six blocks each.
