No.2 Kirkwood women top Iowa Western

COUNCIL BLUFFS - The young ladies from the middle part of America defeated a team stocked with international players Saturday.

The second-ranked Kirkwood Eagles topped Iowa Western, 73-55, in a college basketball game at Reiver Arena in Council Bluffs.

The Eagles (4-0) are stocked with players from Iowa and Illinois, with one player apiece from Minnesota and Colorado. Iowa Western has players from the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Australia, Brazil and Sweden.

This round went to Kirkwood.

Kortney Drake popped in five 3-pointers and scored 19 points for the Eagles. Dominique Rodriguez popped off the bench and scored 15 points in 14 minutes, with three shots from three-point land.

Kemara Watson added 10 points for Kirkwood, Ashley Tull grabbed 13 rebounds and Naya Haymon had five assists.

Dustie Obah scored 17 points for Iowa Western (3-1).
