Eagles are headed to the National Championship Tournament

Kirkwood punched their ticket to the NJCAA DII National Tournament with a 77-52 victory over Southwestern Saturday afternoon in Cedar Rapids.

The Eagles (21-1) only led by four after at a quarter at 19-15 but managed to outscore Southwestern 22-10 in the second quarter to take a commanding 41-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Kirkwood was led in scoring by sophomore Kemara Watson's career-high 21 points.  Sophomores Kortney Drake and Tatiana Hodges-Johnson also finished in double figures with 13 and 10 points respectively.

Watson and Drake were named to the Region XI-A All-Tournament Team, as well as sophomore Ashley Tull, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.

The Eagles will find out Monday morning who their first-round opponent will be when the NJCAA conducts their seeding show at 11:00 am.

This year's NJCAA DII National Tournament will take place at Catawba Valley CC in Hickory, NC from April 20th-24th, 2021.
