NO.5 KCC BASEBALL TEAM SWEEPS 5 GAMES

The fifth-ranked Kirkwood baseball team won all five of its games in Illinois this past weekend.
 
The Eagles raised their record to 9-1 with victories over Southwestern Illinois, Harper College and three wins over Lewis & Clark.
 
Kirkwood defeated Southwestern Illinois, 6-1, in Belleville, Ill., on Friday. Kyle Hayes went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Chase Moseley drove in two runs and scored twice. Lorenz Elion and Joe Simpson had two hits. Blaine Harpenau pitched a complete game with six strikeouts.
 
The Eagles scored nine runs in the first inning and topped Harper College, 12-0, in five innings Friday in Belleville. Alex Pendergast went 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Zach Sabers also drove in three runs.
Simpson scored three times with two hits and two RBIs. Caleb Banowetz got the victory.
 
Kirkwood swept a doubleheader from Lewis & Clark, 8-6 and 5-4, on Saturday in Godfrey, Ill.
 
Hayes went 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs in Game 1. Noah Furcht had a homer and three RBIs. Trenton Burkhalter was 3-for-4 with three runs and a home run. Cael Frost was 3-for-4. Tucker Christensen struck out nine batters in five innings for the victory.
 
Moseley went 3-for-4 with a homer in Game 2 on Saturday. Burkhalter hit a home run and drove in two runs. Hayes had two hits and a homer. Nic Scanlon picked up the victory by pitching five strong innings in relief.
 
Kirkwood finished its successful trip with a 5-1 verdict over Lewis & Clark on Sunday. Simpson had two hits and drove in two runs. Frost and Cameron Hailstone had two hits. Jake Matthaidess pitched 5.1 scoreless innings with six strikeouts.
