KCC BASEBALL TEAM ENJOYS 15-3 START

The Kirkwood baseball team is enjoying one of the best starts in school history.

The Eagles, ranked No. 5 in the country, are sitting with a 15-3 record with two games left on their trip to Florida.

Kirkwood has posted a 6-2 mark in Florida so far, heading into a scheduled doubleheader with Delgado Thursday afternoon before heading back to Cedar Rapids.

The Eagles are scheduled to host Southeastern in a doubleheader in their home opener March 23.

Kirkwood is hitting a lusty .329 as a team with 18 home runs. The pitching staff has a collective team earned run average of 3.66.

Joe Simpson is leading the hitters with a .462 batting average and nine RBIs. Kyle Hayes is hitting .420. Chase Moseley is batting .391 with two homers and 17 RBIs. Cael Frost is hitting .364.

Alex Pendergast, a returning All-American, is hitting .355 with 11 RBIs. Trenton Burkhalter is batting .314 with four homers and 14 RBIs. Parker Shupe is hitting .310 with two homers and eight RBIs. Noah Furcht has socked three homers with 15 RBIs.

Jake Matthaidess and Blaine Harpenau have led a deep pitching staff so far. Matthaidess has a 3-0 record and 0.50 ERA, with Harpenau right behind at 3-0 and 0.53.

Tucker Christensen and Caleb Banowetz are 2-0 so far. Bryce Schares has four saves.
