NO.9 KCC BASEBALL SWEEPS IOWA CENTRAL

FORT DODGE - The ninth-ranked Kirkwood baseball team climbed into third place in the ICCAC standings Sunday by sweeping a doubleheader at Iowa Central, 7-3 and 21-7.

The Eagles raised their records to 34-13 overall and 18-9 in the league. Iowa Central fell to 34-16 overall and 15-12 in the conference.

Kirkwood exploded for seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to erase a 1-0 deficit and claim the 7-3 victory in game one.  Alex Pendergast, swinging a hot bat, belted a home run and drove in two runs. Ryan Nelson had two RBIs. Chase Moseley, one of the top hitters in the country, went 2-for-3.

Tucker Christensen (4-0) got the victory. Bryce Schares got the final out for his ninth save, which is tied for second in the nation.

Pendergast hit another home run and drove in five runs in the 21-7 romp in the nightcap. Noah Furcht went 3-for-3 with three runs, a homer and five RBIs. Nelson belted a homer and collected four RBIs. Parker Shupe drove in three runs and scored three times. Cael Frost and Zach Sabers scored three times. Sabers had two RBIs.

The same teams meet in a single game Monday.
