KCC BASEBALL CLAIMS NO.1 SEED FOR REGIONAL
The seventh-ranked Kirkwood Eagles finished the regular season Sunday with a 9-6 victory over Southwestern in an ICCAC game at Kirkwood to sweep the three-game series.
Kirkwood (38-15) claimed the No. 1 seed for the regional tournament that will be played at Mount Mercy University this Thursday through Sunday. The Eagles have drawn an opening-round bye and will not play until Friday.
Iowa Western won the ICCAC regular-season title at 27-5, followed by Indian Hills (24-9) and Kirkwood (22-11). However, Iowa Western and Indian Hills are Division I programs and will not be playing in the Division II regional at Mount Mercy.
Freshman Keian Secrist (1-0) tossed 3.1 innings in relief for his first victory. He struck out three batters and allowed only one hit.
Joe Simpson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Ryan Nelson went 2-for-4 with a home run and scored twice.
