NO.14 KCC BASEBALL DROPS SERIES

The 14th-ranked Kirkwood baseball team got off to a hot start in its three-game series against Northeast the past two days but dropped the last two games.
 
The Eagles sailed in the opener, 10-0, on Sunday as Joe Simpson, Cael Frost and Kyle Hayes hit consecutive home runs in the fourth inning. Simpson belted a three-run shot and had four RBIs. Noah Furcht, Simpson and Trenton Burkhalter had two hits. Hayes drove in two runs.
 
Alec Nigut (4-2) tossed a five-hit shutout with six strikeouts.
 
Kirkwood lost the second game Sunday, 10-8, when Northeast scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning. Frost belted two more homers and Hayes had one round-tripper. Frost was 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs. Hayes was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
 
Northeast prevailed in the final game of the three-game series on Monday, 7-6, in 12 innings. Frost was 3-for-4. Furcht and Miles Risley had two hits.
 
Kirkwood fell to 19-10 overall and 6-4 in the ICCAC.
