KCC BASEBALL ENDS SEASON AT 38-18

BURLINGTON - The 2023 Kirkwood baseball season ended late Sunday on a cool, windy night at Community Field in Burlington.
 
The 17th-ranked Eagles lost to eighth-ranked Iowa Central, 11-8, in the losers bracket finals and were eliminated from the tournament with a 38-18 record.
 
The 10th-ranked Southeastern Blackhawks topped Iowa Central, 5-2, in the first championship game Monday to claim the regional title and a spot in the junior college World Series.
 
Kirkwood's game against Iowa Central Sunday night was finished as the clock neared midnight after being delayed several times.
 
The Eagles pulled within 8-6 in the top of the eighth, but Iowa Central scored three times in the bottom of the eighth to put the game away.
 
Noah Furcht hit a home run for Kirkwood. Joe Simpson drove in two runs.
 
Kirkwood, the No. 3 seed, went 2-2 in the tournament. The Eagles defeated DMACC, 8-7, in the opening round on a walk-off grand slam in the 12th inning by Miles Risley. Kirkwood lost to Southeastern, 7-4; topped Northeast, 12-5; and fell to Iowa Central.
