KCC BASEBALL GRABS NO.3 SEED FOR REGIONAL

MARSHALLTOWN - The 16th-ranked Kirkwood baseball team swept a three-game series from Marshalltown and claimed the No.3 seed for the regional tournament in Burlington this week.
 
The Eagles (36-16) will face No.6 seed DMACC in the opening round Thursday at 2 p.m. at Community Field.
 
Kirkwood topped Marshalltown 7-2, 19-4, and 10-4.
 
Joe Simpson went 6-for-13 in the series with four homers, six runs, and 10 RBIs. Kyle Hayes went 5-for-11 with a homer, four runs, and seven RBIs. He was 4-for-5 with all seven RBIs in the 19-4 verdict.
 
Miles Risley finished 5-for-8 with five runs. Cael Frost was 4-for-11 with two homers. Trenton Burkhalter and Dylan Davis also socked home runs. Kirkwood hit nine home runs in the three-game set.
 
Blaine Harpenau (4-2), Alec Nigut (8-3), and Juan Reyes (2-0) were the winning pitchers. Nic Scanlon collected his 12th save.
