Kirkwood Outlasts Rock Valley in OT

Rockford, IL - In a non-conference showdown that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the 8th-ranked Kirkwood Eagles showcased their resilience and determination as they battled to a hard-fought victory over the Rock Valley Golden Eagles, triumphing 66-58 in overtime.

From the opening tip-off, it was evident that both teams were prepared to leave it all on the court. Rock Valley surged to a slim 2-point lead at halftime, maintaining a narrow advantage of 28-26. However, Kirkwood refused to back down, matching their opponent's intensity step for step.

With the score deadlocked at 54 at the end of regulation, the stage was set for a thrilling overtime period. The Eagles seized the moment, unleashing an offensive barrage that left Rock Valley reeling. Kirkwood poured in 12 crucial points in the extra frame, while Rock Valley managed a mere 4, sealing the hard-earned victory.

Throughout the contest, momentum swung back and forth, with both teams refusing to relinquish control. The game featured an impressive display of skill and determination, highlighted by 7 ties and 7 lead changes. 

Leading the charge for the Eagles was Traijan Sain, who delivered a stellar performance with a game-high 19 points. Not to be outdone, Zach Erwin rose to the occasion, contributing 16 points and hauling in 9 crucial rebounds. Their contributions were instrumental in Kirkwood's triumph on the road.

Statistically, Kirkwood held the edge, shooting an efficient 43% from the field compared to Rock Valley's 36%. Despite being evenly matched in most categories, it was Kirkwood's ability to rise to the occasion in overtime that ultimately propelled them to victory.
