NO.3 KCC WOMEN CRUISE IN REGIONAL OPENER


Emily Dreckman popped in a career-best 23 points Wednesday night as the third-ranked Kirkwood women's basketball team crushed Ellsworth, 97-38, in the quarterfinals of the regional tournament at Johnson Hall.

Kirkwood (27-2) will host NIACC in the semifinals Saturday at 1 p.m. Iowa Western will face Northeast in the other semifinal at 3 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. at Kirkwood.

Dreckman shot 9-for-14 from the floor with four 3-pointers. She also grabbed six rebounds.   

Tasia Jordan scored 12 points and became only the sixth player in school history to surpass 1,000 points in her junior college career. She stands fifth in school history with 1,001. Jordan also snared
eight rebounds.

Alycia Patterson made four 3-pointers and netted 12 points. Makayla Mau, Zhakyla Evans and Demetria Prewitt contributed 10 points apiece.

Kirkwood tossed in seven 3-pointers in the first quarter and led 31-4 after the initial stanza. The Eagles enjoyed a 16-0 run in the third quarter.
