KCC WOMEN REACH ELITE 8 AT NATIONALS

PORT HURON, Mich. - The Kirkwood women's basketball team cleared its first hurdle at the NJCAA Division II national tournament Tuesday with a 60-42 victory over Catawba Valley in the opening round.

The Eagles (30-2) will face Bryant & Stratton in the quarterfinals Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Emily Dreckman and Tasia Jordan led Kirkwood with 12 points apiece. Dreckman, subbing for injured Carsyn Stratton in the starting lineup, popped in four 3-pointers.

Makayla Mau blocked five shots for the Eagles. Jada Devine made five steals and Alycia Patterson made five assists.
