KIRKWOOD MEN STAY IN FIRST PLACE

The 15th-ranked Kirkwood men's basketball team is sitting in first place of the ICCAC standings at the halfway point of the conference race.

The Eagles trimmed No.7 Iowa Western, 72-69, in an ICCAC showdown at Johnson Hall Saturday afternoon.

DaChaun Anderson made four straight free throws in the final 17.5 seconds of the game to help the Eagles stave off Iowa Western. Anderson finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds in another strong performance for Kirkwood.

Dre Anderson hit two key 3-pointers and contributed nine points for the Eagles. Dante Eldridge, Cassius Brooks, Arthur Cox, and Blake Brinkmeyer all scored eight points for Kirkwood. Brinkmeyer also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots.

Kirkwood raised its records to 15-6 overall and 7-2 in the conference with its fifth victory in a row. Iowa Western fell to 13-5 overall and 4-3 in the league, having dropped its last two games by a total of five points.

The Eagles lead DMACC (6-2), Iowa Lakes (5-2), Iowa Western (4-3), and NIACC (4-3) in the 18-game season.

DeWayne Vass scored 19 points for Iowa Western.
