Division II All-Region Teams Announced for Men's Basketball

The ICCAC Division II Men's Basketball All-Region selections were announced on Monday.

The DMACC Bears finished as the last team standing in the Division II bracket after knocking off No. 1 seed Kirkwood in the Region XI Championship, 84-66. DMACC's success this season relied heavily on their two First Team All-Region selections Jaden Graves and Goanar Biliew.

Graves was named the 2022 ICCAC Player of the Year for his outstanding season. He led the league in scoring during conference play at 16.7 points per game in 16 contests. A prolific three-point shooter, Graves was third in NJCAA Division II shooting 48.3 percent from deep and has made the seventh-most threes in the country -- 97. He broke the DMACC school record with nine made threes against Marshalltown on Jan. 18.

For the season, Graves averaged 16.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 29 games through the regional tournament.

Biliew was an efficient complement to Graves' scoring abilities - averaging 13.4 points per game himself with a 63.5 field goal percentage, best in the conference. Biliew was also an anchor in the post, pulling down 7.3 rebounds per game and finishing second in blocks in Division II with 44.

Kirkwood had the most selections across all three All-Region teams and had two selected to the First Team.

Sophomore DaChaun Anderson was the team's leading scorer in conference play with 11.4 points per game while pulling down 9.9 rebounds a night -- leading the conference on the glass. Anderson shot a league-leading 71 percent from the field in league play. He had 10 double-doubles on the season.

Anderson's teammate Blake Brinkmeyer returns as a First Team selection, also receiving the designation in 2021. Brinkmeyer was top 10 in the ICCAC in rebounds (110), blocks (23) and field goal percentage (53.2). He posted 10.6 points and 6.9 rebounds in conference play.

Kirkwood head coach Tim Sandquist garnered this year's recognition as the 2022 ICCAC Division II Men's Basketball Coach of the Year. In his third season, Sandquist led the Eagles to a share of the conference championship for the second time in his tenure. At 13-3, the Eagles were the No. 1 seed of the Region XI Tournament. After the turn of the calendar, Kirkwood had a record of 14-3 and were ranked No. 9 in the polls in February -- their highest ranking after starting the season at No. 1.

Iowa Lakes finished in third place in conference play this season behind the First Team All-Region guard duo of Ryan Hall and Caleb Johnson.

The pair were both selected to the Honorable Mention team last season but find themselves promoted to the First Team after breakout seasons.

Hall slightly edged out Johnson as the leading scorer for the Lakers in conference play at 13.3 points per game and scored in double figures 12 times during conference play.

Johnson was one of the top deep threats in Division II finishing second in three-point percentage during conference play at 41.1%. The freshman was also the top distributor in conference play averaging 5.2 assists per night.

Rounding out the schools with First Team selections are Iowa Western and NIACC with one selection apiece.

The Reivers' selection to the team is sophomore guard Roland McCoy. McCoy, a Second Team selection last season, was a prolific scorer during conference play finishing second in points per game with 15.7 points per game. He also made 42 three-pointers during conference play while shooting nearly 40% from deep.

NIACC freshman Myles Tucker concludes the First Team list after solid play on both sides of the ball. Tucker averaged 15.3 points and 1.7 steals per night in conference play.
