DELZELL SPARKS NO.11 EAGLES BY LAKERS
Caleb Delzell was Mr. Clutch for the Kirkwood Eagles Wednesday night.
Delzell popped in five 3-pointers and scored all 19 of his points in the second half as the 11th-ranked Eagles topped 14th-ranked Iowa Lakes, 81-66, in a showdown for the ICCAC lead at Johnson Hall.
The outcome left Kirkwood in first place with a 9-2 record with five games left. DMACC (7-2) and Iowa Lakes (7-3) are in pursuit.
Delzell, held scoreless in the first half, shook off a twisted ankle to hit a series of key 3-pointers that steered Kirkwood in the right direction.
His 3-pointers gave the Eagles the lead at 33-32, 35-34, 44-40, 47-41, and finally at 72-62. He also grabbed seven rebounds.
DaChaun Anderson finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. Arthur Cox collected his first double-double for the Eagles with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Dre Anderson hit two clutch 3-pointers and provided
10 points.
Kirkwood enjoyed a 46-28 rebounding advantage, including 20 offensive rebounds.
Kirkwood raised its overall record to 17-6 with its seventh straight victory. Iowa Lakes fell to 15-7.
