KCC men fall in regional finals

The Kirkwood men's basketball team fell into a big hole Thursday night and lost to eighth-ranked DMACC, 84-66, in the regional finals at Johnson Hall.

The 13th-ranked Eagles (23-8) swept DMACC during the regular season, but the Bears dominated the third meeting and will be heading to the national tournament to try and repeat as NJCAA Division II champions.

Kirkwood was the No.1 seed in the regional, giving the Eagles the home-court advantage in the championship game, but DMACC raced to an early 19-4 lead and was never headed.

Blake Brinkmeyer had a big game for Kirkwood with 27 points, but nobody else reached double figures for the Eagles.

Michael Hartford led four Bears into double figures with 18 points.
