DEFENSE SHINES FOR NO.2 KCC WOMEN
The second-ranked Kirkwood Eagles rode a stellar defensive performance to a 57-44 victory over No.8 Iowa Western in a key ICCAC women's basketball game at Johnson Hall Saturday.
The victory left the Eagles at 20-1 overall and 11-0 in the league after sweeping the season series from Iowa Western, which fell to 9-6 overall and 6-2 in the conference.
Iowa Western made only 16 of 55 shots for 29.1 percent and committed 17 turnovers.
Ashley Tull and Karsyn Stratton led a balanced attack for Kirkwood with 11 points apiece. Tati Hodges-Johnson scored 10 points, Jada Devine nine and Kortney Drake eight.
Hodges-Johnson made several strong moves to the basket in the fourth quarter and Devine hit two straight 3-pointers at a key juncture of the second half.
Tull grabbed 12 rebounds for another double-double.
