Kirkwood Drops to Lake Land
Top-ranked Kirkwood suffered their first defeat of the season to #9 Lakeland 64-62 in the semifinals of the 42nd Annual Cougar Holiday Classic on Friday afternoon.
A back-and-forth game the entire contest where neither team led by more than six points.
Kirkwood held a slim four-point lead after one quarter at 21-17, but Lakeland responded to take a 34-31 lead at halftime.
The score was knotted at 48-48 heading into the final quarter of play and Lakeland would outscore the Eagles (13-1 / 5-0 ICCAC) 16-14 in the final quarter for the victory.
Sophomore Demetria Prewitt led the Eagles in scoring with 18 points.
Freshman Jenna Twedt also finished in double figures with 12 points.
Kirkwood will now face Bryant & Stratton (WI) in the third-place game at 2:00 pm tomorrow afternoon.
