#2 Eagles Overpower Hawks

Norfolk, NE- Kirkwood wasted little time going to work in their 90-50 victory over Northeast Saturday afternoon in Norfolk, NE. The Eagles were up 14-0 midway through the first quarter before Northeast could finally score their first bucket of the game. Kirkwood (25-2/16-1) would continue to build on their lead and take a 17 lead after the first quarter of play at 24-7. Kirkwood's defense caused numerous problems for the Hawks in the first half as they held them to 22.6% shooting from the floor & the Eagles held a 47-20 lead at halftime. The Eagles continued to expand on their lead following halftime, increasing it to 66-27 going into the final quarter of play. Sophomore Zhakyla Evans recorded two career highs on Saturday, both in points with 21 & rebounds with 9. Sophomore Demetria Prewitt added another double-double to her resume with 17 points & 10 rebounds. Freshman Lizzy Puot also came off the bench to score in double figures with 10 points. The Eagle's defense was the main story of the game though, as they held the Hawks to 21.4% field goal percentage & outrebounded them 49-19. Kirkwood returns home on Wednesday for their next contest as they host DMACC at 5:30 pm in Johnson Hall.
