#4 Eagles Rout #2 Reivers

Cedar Rapids, IA- In a battle of top five ranked teams nationally, #4 Kirkwood dominated #2 Iowa Western from start to finish 72-48 on Saturday afternoon in Johnson Hall.

Kirkwood (23-2 / 14-1 ICCAC) jumped on top of the Reivers early in the first quarter, as they built an early double digit lead at 17-6 on a basket by sophomore Demetria Prewitt with 3:39 remaining in the first quarter.
 
Freshman Lizzy Puot came off the bench to score nine big points in the first quarter to help the Eagles take a 21-8 lead after a quarter.
 
Kirkwood took their largest lead of the first half at 33-13 on a layup by sophomore Kaylee Corbin midway through the second quarter.
 
The Eagles defense continued to fluster Iowa Western in the first half as they led 41-20 at halftime.
 
The second half was very similar to the first - elite defense & effiecent offense by Kirkwood.
 
A three pointer in the corner by Zhakyla Evans increased the Eagles lead to 51-27 with 4:24 remaining the in quarter.
 
Kirkwood finished with four players in double figures led by sophomore Emily Dreckman with 15 points & 8 rebounds.
 
Prewitt, Corbin & Puot all finished with 14 points. Prewitt added 12 rebounds to record her seventh double-double of the season.
 
Evans had a solid floor game at the point guard position, as she finished with 6 points, 7 rebounds & 5 assists.
 
Freshman Jenna Twedt rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with 9 points.
 
With the win, Kirkwood extended their home winning streak to 50 games. Kirkwood's last loss in Johnson Hall was to Iowa Western back on March 13, 2021.
 
The Eagles are now tied with Iowa Western atop the ICCAC with a 14-1 record.
 
Kirkwood hits the road for their next game on Wednesday as they travel to Mason City to take on NIACC.
