3 Eagles Honored With Post-Season Awards

Cedar Rapids, IA- After capping off an incredible 35-2 season with the program's ninth National Title, honors were bound to come the Eagles way & they did just that this week.

 
MUHL NAMED NJCAA DII WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH OF THE YEAR
 
 
On Wednesday, the NJCAA named head coach Kim Muhl the 2023-24 NJCAA DII Women's Basketball Coach of the Year.
 
In 34 seasons, Coach Muhl had compiled a 1045-171 (.859) record & currently is the NJCAA women's basketball all time leader in wins.
 
Kirkwood Athletic Director Doug Wagemester said "In a year where NCAA DI women's basketball has been very exciting & caught the attention of the entire country, we here at Kirkwood Community College, have been the benefactors of that type of energy & success for the past 3+ decades with Coach Muhl leading our women's program. The 9 National titles are a testament to his work ethic & uncompromising approach to doing it the right way."
 
PREWITT & TWEDT NAMED NJCAA DII 1st TEAM ALL-AMERICANS
 
Two Kirkwood players also received honors this week from the NJCAA for their play on the court.
 
Sophomore Demetria Prewitt & freshman Jenna Twedt were both named NJCAA DII 1st Team All-Americans.
 
Prewitt led the Eagles in both scoring (15.6) & rebounds (7.4) this season.
 
The 5-10 sophomore from Madison, WI also recorded 13 double-doubles this season & scored a career-high 29 points on two separate occasions.
 
Prewitt was recently selected as one of 40 NJCAA student-athletes to participate in the inaugural NJCAA Women's Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame 3-on-3 event in Knoxville, TN the weekend of April 26-27th.
 
Twedt finished second in scoring with a 14.4 average for the Eagles during her freshman season.
 
The 5-8 Atkins, IA native finished third in the nation in free throw percentage (108-122 88.5%) & finished 11th in the nation with 89 made three-pointers.
 
Twedt scored a career-high 31 points & tied a program record for most threes made in a game (9) in the Eagles 81-72 over NIACC on February 14th.
 
This marks the third consecutive season that Kirkwood has had at least one Eagle named NJCAA DII 1st Team All-American.
 
Tasia Jordan received the honor last season & Ashley Tull & Kortney Drake were both recipients of the honor during the 2022-23 season.
