Eagles Beat Bryant & Stratton to Close Holiday Tournament

East Peoria, IL- Kirkwood responded from their first loss of the season with a hard-fought 70-66 victory over Bryant & Stratton to claim third place at the 42nd Annual Cougar Holiday Tournament in Peoria, IL on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles, who led for all but 38 seconds in the game, improved to 14-1 overall (5-0 ICCAC).

Kirkwood led 28-20 at halftime and saw their lead jump to as much as 20 with 9:50 left in the fourth quarter on a basket by freshman Lizzy Puot.

Bryant & Stratton did not quit though, as they outscored the Eagles 35-21 in the fourth quarter to make it a tight game down the stretch.

The Eagles however were able to seal the game at the free throw line & earn the victory.

Sophomore Demetria Prewitt led Kirkwood with her third double-double of the season, as she finished with 20 points & 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Kaylee Corbin added 12 points & 9 rebounds & freshman Jenna Twedt also finished in double figures with 10 points.

Puot & sophomore Emily Dreckman both chipped in with 8 points a piece & sophomore Zhakyla Evans dished out 9 assists.

The Eagles now head into the heart of ICCAC play as they head to Council Bluffs on Wednesday to take on #6 ranked Iowa Western.
