Eagles Advance to Quarterfinals of National Tournament

Joplin, MO- It took a quarter for Kirkwood to settle in, but when they did good things happened for the 2nd-seeded Eagles as they defeated 15th-seed Lake Land 90-69 Tuesday night at the NJCAA DII National Tournament in Joplin, MO.

The Eagles (32-2) trailed 19-18 after a quarter but used a 13-0 to start the second quarter to take a 31-19 lead with 5:10 remaining in the half.
 
Kirkwood would take a 46-32 lead into the locker room at halftime.
 
Fres Lizzy Puot gave Kirkwood their largest lead of the game at 65-41 on a three-point play with 41 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
 
Five Eagles finished in double figures, led by sophomore Demetria Prewitt with a game-high 21 points & 9 rebounds.
 
Freshman Jenna Twedt added 19 points, while Puot chipped in 13 points off the bench.
 
Sophomore Kaylee Corbin added 12 points, while sophomore Zhkayla Evans finished with 10 points.
 
Freshmen Ellah Kissell & Niaja William both finished with 6 points off the bench & sophomore Emily Dreckman rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with 3 points.
 
The Eagles won the battle on the boards 40-28 & outscored Lake Land 42-26 in the paint.
 
Kirkwood now advances to the quarterfinal round where they will take on 7th seed Morton Panthers Thursday night at 7:00 pm.
